Attorney General Bob McDonnell joined Coy Barefoot Wednesday afternoon on "Charlottesville—Right Now!" with his monthly update. He discussed at length the controversy surrounding the new "abusive driver" fees. McDonnell disagreed with recent court rulings in Virginia that found the new fines unconstitutional. "Our lawyers have reviewed that," he said, "and we do believe that while it may not be great policy—in fact I don't support it applying only to Virginia drivers—we believe it still passes the muster under the constitutional principle of equal protection." McDonnell also shared his thoughts on the recent passing of Civil Rights leader Oliver Hill.
An idea whose time has come? Chris Myers Asch of the U.S. Public Service Academy was a guest this week on "Charlottesville—Right Now!" with Coy Barefoot. Asch gives us the background on one of the most exciting proposals Washington has seen in years. A long list of organizations and political leaders have already endorsed the idea. Check out the podcast and find out what everyone is talking about.
